MARTIN DISLER
Häutung und Tanz

(SHEDDING OF SKIN AND DANCING)
1990/91. Bronze

The restlessly productive individualist Martin Disler cannot be pigeonholed either as a person or an artist. In the years following 1985 Disler engaged intensively with sculpture. First he created plaster pieces that appeared rather awkward and trashy, then in 1990/91 he began to have groups of many figures cast in bronze, entitled The Shedding of Skin and Dance. These are embodiments of his own corporeal sensibilities, creating mementoes that conjure up humans in all their inner turmoil and vulnerability. Martin Disler died at the age of 47 in 1996 in Geneva and was buried at his birthplace in Seewen.
