NOT VITAL Leading the Way |

2013. Polished stainless steel. The branch of a pepper tree in stainless steel rests against the brim of a roof in the inner courtyard of Schoenthal monastery, like the walking stick of a wandering giant. The budded branch shows nature at its most promising. At Schoenthal it catches the morning light and points towards the sky. From closer up the object seems to dissolve in its mirroring surfaces, sucking in the world as a miniature. The sculpture is present, but not quite tangible, embedded in its surrounding, yet seemingly afloat. In this it ressembles the artist, who crosses the world between his ancestors’ home in Sent, Beijing, Agadez in Niger and Rio de Janeiro. |
