A girl is playing the violin. The bow strokes the strings, then stops, then starts to make them resonate again. In the video projection Das Kinderlied (The Children’s Song) in the main room of the monastery church in Schönthal, image and sound collide and compete with each other. The artist has slowed down the whole sequence to 1/20th of its normal speed. The bright sound of the violin mutates into a droning, haunting bass tone; the movements of the girl lost in concentrated music-making run at an almost painfully slow tempo. The sound in its full substance is set against the almost ineffable touching of the bow on the strings, as the almost violently swelling sound waves encounter images of contemplation and peace.
