(SHELTER) 1986. Bronze The “Shelter” was conceived for an urban location, in stark contrast to its present position in quiet Chlustal. The narrow passage in the middle offers shelter and shade – the “dwelling” is one of the basic themes of this kind of art inspired by rural building traditions. At the same time the cramped spaces, which rise up towards the open gable at both ends, feel oppressive. Sigrist addresses existential questions - states of enclosure and openness, the tension between “site” and the “world”, homeland and mobility. Kurt Siegrist was born in Sachseln in 1943 and lives in Sarnen. |
