“Schoenthal Drawings” is the modest title Andrew James Ward gave to his show. His presentation had its beginnings in a three-week stay as artist in residence. He made charcoal drawings on daily excursions into the cold December landscape, leading us through the Schoenthal countryside. The drawings sometimes offer a close-up view, but at other times observe from a distance, often figurative but then consolidating into metaphoric images. Thanks to this concentrated vision, a kind of energy field opens up to the alert eye. Andrew James Ward: “One must become like a hunter, who moves with the intuition and alertness of a deer, recognizes its tracks in the grass and, experiencing a change of mind, decides to capture it alive.” |
