“An open book looks different to a closed one. If it has a soft cover, it can be rolled up, which alters its appearance further. This simple procedure, together with cutting and moulding, enabled a single copy of the Yellow Pages to become the starting point for YP1. I shaped and modified the classified directory until the horizontal cross section resembled a keyhole.” Hamish Black, born in 1948 in the British county of Essex, now lives in East Sussex.
