TONY CRAGG
Jurassic Landscape

1984. Jurassic limestone

In the early 1970s Tony Cragg, a friend of the artist Richard Long, often collected his materials on walks – from debris washed up on the beach, in the countryside and at dumps – and positioned his findings on the wall or floor as visually powerful, multi-coloured arrangements. His own little landscape in Schöntal is made of chunks of limestone he found in a Jurassic quarry. This was one of his first outdoor sculptures. Tony Cragg has lived in Wuppertal since 1977, where his impressive “Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden”, founded in 2008, has brought together his own early works with his later large bronzes and pieces by colleagues.
