HANS JOSEPHSOHN
Relief

1974. Brass

Hans Josephson (1920-2012) came from Königsberg in East Prussia. A defining moment in his oeuvre was his German-Jewish ancestry. His exclusively figurative works are memorials against forgetting, as indictments of annihilation and inhumanity. At the same time they are monuments to survival and the principle of hope.
