ERWIN WORTELKAMP
Outside temporarily from 25.5.2002 to 31.12.2012

Erwin Wortelkamp hewed his sculpture on site out of a fallen beech tree in Schönthal. “For a few years to come, we will have the opportunity of observing how this work takes its leave of us. Like this: the remains of the tree stump with its massive roots is encased in concrete, maintaining contact with the ground, while the roots stop at the surface plane and are subject to external influences.” Today the plinth is all that remains of the sculpture. Wortelkamp, who was born in Hamm in 1938, is the founder of a sculpture collection in the quiet landscape around Hasselbach, Rhineland Palatinate.
